How to Talk to Kids About War

Supporting parents and carers when tough topics arise.

Directing, designing and animating a charitable project for Mrs Wordsmith’s parent community

The Brief

How can we, as a children’s edtech literacy company, contribute meaningfully to the current topical conversation of the Ukraine-Russia war on social media, along with helping people in need?

Process
  • Multi-department brainstorm, concluding in the idea to producte A series of social posts and an at-home printable PDF for parents and carers called ‘How to Talk to Kids About War’
  • I project managed the team to gather research, copy and illustrations to design the PDF. It really was a team effort, especially creating somthing so sensitive and time-tight. Feedback was daily and everyone pitched in to make a quality resource.
  • Having designed the PDF, I then worked with Marketing creating a 5 post series over the month of April 2022 encouraging parents to talk about the news with their children in a helpful way.

The Impact
  • 1 PDF Resource to aid difficult conversations with children
  • 5 social media carousel posts sparking conversation ideas
  • 5 animated instastory series supporting the main feed posts
  • Most importantly, over $6000 raised for charity!

My Favourite Part

I loved being able to really give back and help both the wonderful parent community Mrs Wrodsmith has, and the incredible charities doing the hard work on the ground in Ukraine.

Another proud moment for me was concepting the headline illustration for “solidarity”. I’m passionate about a fairer and more just world, I know this is a small impact, but every contribution counts and I’m proud of that.
